Evaluation

Assessing our activities, goals, and mission.

The Minority Scholars from Under-Represented Minorities, or SURGE, program, is a pilot project funded under the National Science Foundation’s Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) program (award # 1744479). Initiated in fall 2017, SURGE aims to strengthen the recruitment, retention, and matriculation of minority graduate students in STEM-related fields, and thereby increase the representation of these groups among disaster researchers, decision-makers, and practitioners. SURGE is organized around three key programmatic pillars, including professional development training, hands-on experience collaborating with marginalized
communities, and individualized student mentoring. This page examines  provides our internal evaluations on the overall SURGE experience, the mentoring program, and the boots-on-the-ground field study.
